So what can you expect from Xiaomi and which are their most popular models?
More about Xiaomi
Xiaomi is better known in Asia for their smartphones, and they’re the world’s second largest smartphone producer, but in Europe they’ve taken the scooter market by storm. While not exactly new, electric scooters had a reputation for being bulky and strange looking, so the Xiaomi approach to designing minimalist and cool looking products that were also easy to store and carry was a game changer. Xiaomi is often credited with making electric scooters cool, and their earlier models really helped set the standard for how electric scooters should look, with smooth curves and sleek lines that hide the majority of the mechanical bits and bobs internally.
While they were much more capable than the scooters that had come before them, none of this was achieved by sacrificing practicality or weight. A key part of the scooters’ design philosophy was that they should be easy to fold up and carry so that they could easily be taken on public transport, folded and stored at work or at home, making all the weight and bulk you used to get with electric scooters a thing of the past.
Xiaomi also upped users’ expectations of what they could achieve with their scooter. Before, many electric scooters were just scaled up versions of kids toys meant for adults, but with the addition of LED brake and headlights, digital displays, speakers and even an accompanying app – scooters suddenly got a lot more grown up. Everything from cruise control to electronic locking suddenly became possible, which made scooters much more like mopeds or high end push bikes, but without the cost! So what about the best selling Xiaomi models? Take a look below.
The Xiaomi M365 needs no introduction as the best selling electric scooter in the world, as well as the flagship scooter for the whole Xiaomi brand. While the Xiaomi M365 has since been joined by more sophisticated models of scooter in the Xiaomi range, there is still a place for the M365 as an affordable bridge model that provides some excellent capability without some of the flashier toys or the heftier price tag.
The major selling point of the M365 is a combination between its excellent ease of use, its light weight and its great performance in its segment. The design allows you to fold the scooter up until it is easily small enough to carry or fit into a bag, while its weight of 12.5kg is one of the lightest comparable models of scooter out there and makes it practical to carry around with you as you commute or go about your day. Despite this light weight and practical design, the M365 also has market leading performance in its class, with the ability to reach a maximum range of 18.5 miles at a top speed of 15kph on a single charge.
While the M365 is the workhorse of the Xiaomi range, the brand was in need of an upgrade to take on second generation features that had been creeping into the market, which is where the 1S came onto the scene. The 1S is based on the best-selling M365 chassis and boasts that same light weight and easy portability, but with the added benefit of a digital display, an accompanying smartphone app and a remote locking system. This means you can keep tabs on things like your speed and your battery life easily while you’re riding, or remotely via the app when you’re waiting for your scooter to charge – which it can do in just five and a half hours.
Performance wise the 1S is a further upgrade from the M365, boasting a top speed of 15.5mph and a range of 18.6 miles with its 250W motor. Even better, the addition of softer pneumatic tyres means you’re going to get a smooth ride out of this scooter, without worrying that it’s going to make your scooter any heavier or less portable. The addition of regenerative breaking and Bluetooth compatibility are just the icing on the cake for a design that takes a classic model and upgrades it in just about every way.
